About us

Powerboat West is based in Galway, but the mobile nature of our business means that we can conduct courses in any location in Ireland. Since our establishment in 2015, we have provided powerboat training to approximately 200 trainees – both adults and children. We have a team of highly skilled and fully qualified instructors which allows us to get you on the water all year round. In the past, our instructors have hosted courses for Galway Bay Sailing Club, Galway City Sailing Club and Kilrush Marina Training Centre. We have also held courses in many other locations while flying the PowerBoat West flag.

We have a great passion for our sport and enjoy nothing more then introducing it to beginners for the first time or up-skilling those who have been involved in power boating for years. Whether you have been involved in water sports previously or are a complete beginner we would love to get you on the water with us. We provide powerboat training to all levels and abilities through scheduled courses and through one to one and private group tuition.

Our Courses

– Introduction to Power boating (Level 1 for complete beginners)
– National Powerboat Course (Level 2 for those with some nautical knowledge)
– Safety Boat Course (Level 3 for those looking for advanced rescue skills)

Our Fleet

Our Fleet currently comprises of a 7m Rib powered by a 190hp Volvo Penta inboard. Our rib comfortably seats six people and proves to be an ideal training vessel due to its deck layout, size and power unit. We also own an 8m Fibreglass keelboat powered by the wind on a good day and a 5hp Yamaha two stroke outboard on those better days. As our business grows, we continue to maintain and upgrade our equipment and we hope to purchase additional training craft soon.

We are also the proud owners of two Land Rover Defenders which help get our fleet from place to place as required. Desmond and Percy (the Defenders) are both modified, and performance enhanced to ensure that no matter how tricky the launching situation is or how heavy a load we have to carry – they always get the job done and have never let us down. @Td5_Desmond is awaiting your follow-on Instagram!
